"Exotic plants are plants which have their own unique appeal due to its colour, shape, or taste which are exclusive, beautiful or
unusual compared with other plants, or due to its content, wide spectrum efficacy, and benefits for health, vigour and
stamina. Red fruit, red durian, black cincau , green cincau, plum cincau, oil cincau, dodder and laurel dodder are some
examples of potential Indonesian exotic plants whose spread is endemic and they can be found only in certain areas in
Indonesia. These various regional plants unique to Indonesia are rich in carotenoid, a natural pigment abounding in health
functions and it has been commercialized as assorted food and health products. The main carotenoid type found in those
carotene (red fruit); several carotenoid types belonging to carotene and
xanthophyll ( katuk, black cincau, green cincau, grass jelly cincau and oil cincau carotene, lutein,
taraxanth carotene, lycopene, phytoene, phytofluene (laurel dodder), which have been proven to contain
substantial efficacy. Limited research into carotenoid of Indonesian exotic plants need to be seriously exploited by Indonesian researchers as one of the rich natural resource assets"
