Abstract/Notes |
Kappaphycus alvarezii var. brown and green are the main cultivated seaweed in Sumenep waters, Madura Island, East Java, Indonesia as raw material to meet the demand of cappa-carageenan. The cultivation techniques and post-harvesting process are carried out in a traditional way, leaving the seaweed to be over-exposed under strong intensity of sunlight and heat, thus leading degradation of photosynthetic pigments. Here, we report the composition and content photosynthetic pigments from K. alvarezii var. brown and green that have been grown at different depth. We recorded that the concentration of carotenoid pigments are increased when K. alvarezii is grown in deeper cultivation position. We also report the photo- and thermostability of the pigments, in order to trance its egradation products |
